Overview Tucked away in the coastal rainforest of the Shimba Hills National Reserve near Diani Beach, Sheldrick Falls is a beautiful hidden gem. This picturesque waterfall cascades approximately 21 meters (70 ft) down a cliff face into a cool, natural plunge pool. The falls are surrounded by lush, tropical vegetation and liana vines, creating a serene and refreshing oasis in the heart of the forest. It offers a perfect contrast to the nearby sunny beaches and provides a cool escape for a nature-filled excursion.
Activities The primary activity is a guided walk or hike through the forest to reach the falls. The 2-kilometer trail can be steep in places but is manageable for most fitness levels and offers the chance to see the reserve’s unique flora and possibly spot some of its wildlife. Upon reaching the falls, visitors can take a refreshing swim in the natural pool at the base, enjoy a picnic in the tranquil surroundings, and take stunning photographs. The walk is led by a KWS ranger who provides security and points out interesting features along the way.
Did you know? The waterfall is named after David Sheldrick, the famed founder of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, who discovered the cascade while flying over the Shimba Hills in the mid-20th century.
