Overview Located on the Athi-Galana River near the town of Thika, Fourteen Falls is a broad and impressive series of cascading waterfalls. As the name suggests, the site consists of fourteen distinct, successive falls that thunderously plunge over a 27-meter-high cliff. The falls are particularly dramatic during the rainy season when the river is full and the cascades merge into a powerful, continuous torrent. The area is a popular recreational spot for day trips from Nairobi, offering both spectacular scenery and a variety of activities.
Activities Visitors can admire the panoramic view of the falls from the riverbank and take photographs of the expansive cascade. For a small fee, local guides offer boat rides across the river to the base of the falls, providing a closer and more dramatic perspective. One of the main attractions is watching local guides perform daring dives from the top of the falls into the plunge pools below. The surrounding area is also suitable for birdwatching, plant identification, and picnicking.
Did you know? Close to Fourteen Falls is the Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, often called “Kilimambogo” or the “Mountain of Buffalo,” offering hiking trails and the chance to see the grave of the early settler Lord Macmillan.
