Overview Lake Bogoria is a dramatic and geologically active saline, alkaline lake in the Rift Valley. It is most famous for its spectacular display of geothermal activity, with numerous hot springs and powerful geysers erupting along its shoreline. The lake is often home to one of the world’s largest populations of lesser flamingos, who are drawn to the abundant cyanobacteria (algae) that thrive in its alkaline waters. The stark, beautiful landscape and the steam rising from the hot springs give the area an almost prehistoric feel.
Activities The main attraction is witnessing the hot springs and geysers; visitors are often seen boiling eggs in the hot, bubbling water. Flamingo viewing is a spectacular sight when the birds are present in large numbers. Game drives around the Lake Bogoria National Reserve can yield sightings of the greater kudu, a rare and majestic antelope, as well as zebras, impalas, and buffaloes. The area is also fantastic for birdwatching and exploring the unique, arid landscape.
