Overview Lake Nakuru is a shallow, alkaline lake famous for the spectacular flocks of lesser flamingos that once lined its shores in the millions, creating a brilliant pink spectacle. While flamingo numbers have varied in recent years due to changing water levels, the surrounding Lake Nakuru National Park remains a premier wildlife destination. The park is a designated rhino sanctuary and one of the best places in Kenya to see both black and white rhinos. The landscape is diverse, with acacia woodlands, rocky cliffs, and expansive grasslands.
Activities Game viewing is the main draw of Lake Nakuru National Park. Visitors can embark on game drives to see the rich concentration of wildlife, including the protected rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, lions, leopards, and large herds of buffalo. Birdwatching remains excellent, with over 450 species recorded.
